PROJECT OBJECTIVE
The objective of the project is to support the Minister of Climate and Environment in the development of the National Nature Restoration Plan (NNRP). The preparation of the NNRP arises from the obligation to implement EU nature restoration legislation established by Regulation (EU) 2024/1991 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 June 2024 on nature restoration, amending Regulation (EU) 2022/869.
The Nature Restoration Law aims to ensure the long-term and sustainable recovery of biodiverse and resilient ecosystems across the terrestrial and marine areas of the European Union Member States through the restoration of degraded ecosystems. It also seeks to advance the overarching Union objectives of climate change mitigation and adaptation, land degradation neutrality (meaning that the quantity and quality of land resources remain stable or improve), as well as to enhance food security and fulfil the EU’s international commitments.
TARGET AUDIENCE
- The project outputs will primarily support the Minister of Climate and Environment in fulfilling Poland’s obligations related to the development of the National Nature Restoration Plan. The preparation of a comprehensive plan to improve and restore the state of the environment across the country will also be valuable to authorities responsible for land management and environmental monitoring.
- Furthermore, the project will have educational and informational value for the general public by drawing attention to the need to protect ecosystems located beyond the boundaries of legally protected areas.
PROJECT SCOPE
The project comprises five main tasks carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Climate and Environment (MoCE) and the Working Groups established for the development of the NNRP:
- Preparation of substantive contributions to the National Nature Restoration Plan
- Participation in the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)
- Participation in the public consultation process for the draft National Nature Restoration Plan
- Identification and assessment of conditions for the systemic implementation of the Nature Restoration Law
- Revision of the draft NNRP in accordance with the results of its evaluation by the European Commission
