PROJECT OBJECTIVE
The project focuses on developing joint regional solutions for the mountainous areas of the Sudetes and Carpathians. It takes into account the need to combine climate action with a broader development perspective, supporting initiatives covering river basins, the Sudeten and Carpathian mountain systems, and the ecological corridors connecting them.
The project aims to achieve the following specific objectives:
- to develop a common high-resolution climate dataset for the Sudeten and Carpathian regions, covering historical and future climate, based on Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) data;
- to develop a downscaling methodology to refine C3S climate projections for mountain regions;
- to assess the quality of C3S datasets for transboundary mountain regions using national observational and satellite data;
- to analyse climate trends and extreme events based on C3S data;
- to identify needs and risks related to the tourism sector in the Sudeten and Carpathian regions in the context of climate change;
- to identify needs and risks related to biodiversity and nature restoration in these regions;
- to identify needs and risks related to infrastructure safety in mountain regions in the context of climate change.
TARGET AUDIENCE
- Public administration, public institutions, decision-makers, and NGOs interested in implementing climate adaptation solutions into strategic documents, as well as scientists and the general public.
PROJECT SCOPE
- analysis of climate trends and changes in the frequency and intensity of extreme events;
- identification of climate hazards and risks for transboundary areas of the Sudetes and Carpathians;
- assessment of climate change impacts on key sectors, including tourism, biodiversity, ecosystems, and infrastructure safety;
- development of climate risk maps, climate indicators, and recommendations supporting adaptation measures;
- support for transboundary climate resilience planning and implementation of national and regional adaptation strategies;
- development of scientific and operational cooperation between institutions from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia in climate monitoring and assessment.
