Representative of the IOŚ-PIB as a member of the Polish delegation at the EEA meetings regarding preparations for the implementation of new air quality standards

On May 6–8 this year, two key meetings dedicated to air quality and environmental data reporting took place at the headquarters of the European Environment Agency (EEA) in Copenhagen.

On May 6, the 3rd meeting of the working group implementing the air quality data and information reporting system – Reportnet 3 – was held. The new reporting system aims to streamline the collection, analysis, and sharing of air quality data across Europe. The implementation of Reportnet 3 is an important step toward increasing transparency and improving the quality of environmental information provided by Member States.

On May 7–8, the 15th international technical meeting of the European Environment Agency took place. The main theme of the meeting was aligning technical activities with the requirements of air quality management policies, with particular emphasis on preparations for implementing the new Ambient Air Quality Directive (Directive (EU) 2024/2881). During the sessions, issues related to improving the quality, timeliness, and comparability of data reported by Member States were discussed. These aspects are crucial for assessing compliance with new regulations, analysing trends, and informing the public about air quality status.

A delegation from Poland attended the meetings, including Paweł Durka from the Atmospheric and Climate Modelling Department at IOŚ-PIB and a team of experts from the Chief Inspectorate of Environmental Protection, which is responsible for reporting monitoring data and air quality assessments. The presentations and discussions during the meetings provided valuable insights that will help better prepare for upcoming changes in legislation and reporting systems.

Participation in these events enabled Polish representatives to exchange experiences with experts from other Member States and to thoroughly familiarise themselves with new technical requirements that will be key in the coming years for the effective implementation of air quality management policies in Poland and across the European Union.
