On 13 – 15 May IOŚ-PIB hosted the international workshop of the Task Force on Emission Inventories and Projections (TFEIP). TFEIP is a task force established as an advisory body under the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP), whose main objective is to support signatory countries in fulfilling their reporting obligations regarding the inventories and projections of national air pollutant emissions. The group is responsible, among other things, for the development and updating of the EMEP/EEA Emission Inventory Guidebook, harmonization of estimation methodologies, data quality assessment, and creating a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience among experts from all over Europe.
This year’s edition of the workshop, organized by the Emission Inventory and Reporting Unit from the National Centre for Emissions Management (KOBiZE) in IOŚ-PIB, is one of the key events in the process of evaluation and improvement of air pollutant emission inventory methodologies. The meetings are cyclical and gather a wide group of international experts and scientists, enabling the exchange of the latest knowledge, experience and good practices in the field of emission inventory. These workshops are also an important platform for establishing contacts and developing international cooperation, which in the past resulted in joint research and development projects and implementation of innovative solutions in the field of monitoring and reporting of pollutant emissions. The meeting was attended by representatives of, among others, the EC, IIASA, EEA and JRC.
The meeting – opened by Mr. Robert Jeszke, Head of KOBiZE and Deputy Director for Emissions Management in IOŚ-PIB – was also attended by members of the Emissions Inventory and Reporting Unit (ZIRE), who have specialised for many years in the inventories of both greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions and also in preparing national emission projections. It should be emphasised that the involvement of the KOBiZE representatives in the workshop was comprehensive – in addition to organisational support, experts actively participated in thematic workshop sessions, sharing their experience and knowledge with the international community of specialists. During this year’s workshops, the work of the ZIRE team was distinguished with an award for Poland for the best inventory report 2025 in the “Most comprehensive report” category.
