From 3–5 September 2025, five representatives of the Department of Atmospheric and Climate Modelling (ZMAiK) in IOŚ-PIB – Prof. Joanna Strużewska, Ph.D. Eng., Aneta Gienibor, M.Sc., Grzegorz Jeleniewicz, M.Sc. Eng., Karol Przeździecki, Ph.D. Eng., and Aleksandra Starzomska, M.Sc. Eng. – took part in the 9th Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) General Assembly, held in Prague. At the same time, they also participated in the 5th Atmosphere User Forum.
The CAMS General Assembly is an annual event bringing together a wide community of scientists, atmospheric composition data providers, and end users. It provides an excellent opportunity to establish new contacts, exchange knowledge, and jointly define priorities for the development of services related to air quality modelling, emission inventories, and the use of CAMS products for scientific, educational, and administrative purposes. The event included plenary sessions, panel discussions, thematic meetings, and numerous opportunities for collaboration.
Key topics addressed during the event included:
- the development of new products and services within CAMS,
- validation of CAMS products and innovative methods of information processing,
- increasing the uptake of CAMS products by public administration, science, and the education sector,
- demonstrators for the health and energy sectors,
- strengthening cooperation with end users and building the CAMS user community.
The ZMAiK team presented a poster entitled “CAMS for Poland: Bridging European Air Quality Science and National Action”, showcasing the activities of the Institute of Environmental Protection – National Research Institute (IOŚ-PIB) within the framework of the CAMS National Collaboration Programme Poland (second service contract).
IOŚ-PIB is responsible for coordinating and implementing the CAMS NCP in Poland. Since the second edition, the programme has been carried out in cooperation with the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw and the Institute of Geophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences.
